Wands Tarot Meanings

Ace of wands:

  • Upright: new opportunities, growth, potential, energy-positive beginnings, fertility, transformation, new location, your efforts are turning the idea into a successful reality.

  • Reversed: lack of direction, distractions, delays energy and mystical talent are wasted.

Two of Wands:

  • Upright: striking out on a journey or new path, progress, decisions, discovery. Waiting for a journey.

  • Reversed: Possible delays, unfulfilled promises, hesitation, disillusionment.

Three of wands:

  • Upright: Stood on the precipice of a new adventure, momentum, confidence, expansion, growth, foresight, looking ahead, bright future.

  • Reversed: restriction, limitations, lack of progress, obstacles, delays, frustration

Four of wands:

  • Upright: Celebration, joy, harmony, relaxation, homecoming. In general a card of love and celebrating with loved ones.

  • Reversed: Personal celebration. Even if this card is reversed, it still carries a positive message, on occasion, the celebration is a pleasant surprise...  so pretend to be shocked. Can mean a delay in reunion.

Five of wands:

  • Upright: Conflict- yet note the wands aren't actually striking. Conflict without direction, clarity or attempted resolution. Disagreements, tension, competition

  • Reversed: Inner conflict, conflict avoidance, tension release

Six of wands:

  • Upright: This card is all about public recognition for success. Victory, triumph, rewards, praise, acclaim, pride.

  • Reversed: success is restricted, being unrecognized after hard work, impaired condition, fall from grace, egotism.

Seven of wands:

  • Upright: Adrenaline, enthusiasm, ambition, challenge, testing skills, overcome mystical or mundane obstacles with style, wisdom, defending your position, humour. Can represent the moment before a conflict when adrenaline starts to kick in and feeling optimistic of winning and prepared to defend/compete.

  • Reversed: Exhaustion, giving up, lack of confidence, restlessness, hesitation, denial in love, a breakup from external pressure, failure to hold your ground.

Eight of wands:

  • Upright: Movement, fast paced change, action, alignment, long-distance travel usually by air, doing everything in speed,  holiday.

  • Reversed: Delays, frustration, resisting change, internal alignment . A state that lasts forever, the spell stops working, trouble with air travel, flights cancelled.,

Nine of wands:

  • Upright: This is a card of persistence and strategy. Endurance, courage, protection, protect yourself and your reputation, stand up strong, always be cautious, magical protection might be the thing to do.

  • Reversed: Paranoia, fear of failure, looking to others for help when you should look to yourself initially, lack of courage.

Ten of wands:

  • Upright: Many commitments, do not have enough time, feeling overwhelmed and carrying too much burden, you need to pick up and choose, prioritise, too much to carry on your shoulders.

  • Reversed: Mentally overwhelmed, physically exhausted, oppression, burdens causing actual damage to mental and physical health. Carrying the burden to extreme detriment or finally delegating- passed the stage of needing to act.

  • Upright: Inspiration, ideas, discovery, expect exciting and joyful news, determination and imagination, limitless potential, free spirit.

 

  • Reversed: Newly-formed ideas, redirecting energy, self-limiting beliefs, a spiritual path, rumours and hints, bad news.

Knight of wands:

  • Upright: Energy, passion, inspired action, adventure, impulsiveness, take bold action now.

  • Reversed: Haste, taking dangerous risks, confusion, an interrupted or derailed project, scattered energy.

Queen of wands:

  • Upright: Rich in affection and successful with family, talented Witch and a born leader of the magical group, a versatile person, modesty, open-mindedness, cheerfulness, charm, playfulness, excellence, social butterfly. She is very self-assured and feisty.

  • Reversed: Self-respect, self-confidence, introverted, re-establish sense of self.

King of wands:

  • Upright: superhero father, entrepreneur, an agitator; an attractive, open-minded, enthusiastic, and generous person, an adviser, artistic expression, creativity.

  • Reversed: Pride, greed, take advantage of the efforts and ideas of others, impulsiveness, selfish person, Haste, high-expectation.
